SureStore Optical 40fx device error
Hi,
I recently found an optical 40fx device in storage and need some help installing the device. I currently have an Adaptec AHA-2944u pci scsi adapter (updated bios) and the 40fx is hooked up. The device is found during boot, but Windows 98 calls this an unknown device and asks for a driver. The strange part is My Computer shows two new removable devices, yet they are inaccessible.
Do I need a driver? or am I missing a step?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: SureStore Optical 40fx device error
The 40fx is a 16 slot, one or 2 drive, 4X MO library.
I don't think there is native library support in win98. Windows 2000 adds the removal storage manager (RSM).
Win98 should support the disk drives themselves. You'll have to format the disk before you can access it. I've used 512 and 1024 sector size media on win98.
I think 3rd party (ISV) apps are typically used for managing the robotics, depending on the application. There's a solutions finder on the HP website for this purpose.

The journey IS the reward.
