Elitebook 8460p - Can't adjust brightness

I purchased my elitebook 8460p, 64-bit Windows Ultimate a few weeks ago. I have gone through the routine of updating drivers, but the one thing I can't get to work right is the brightness. It's stuck on full blast! I feel like I need a break every 5 minutes from my screen!

I turned off the auto-brightness-adjustor just in case that had gone hay-wire. Nothing. the fn keys don't adjust the brightness. The Settings menu doesn't adjust the brightness. The sliders move back and forth, but the brightness stays the same!

I'd love some ideas on how to get this brightness turned down. Working at night is nearly impossible!
