How to properly connect HP 1820 switches for optimal performance?
Hello, colleagues,
I have three switches in my network:
- SW1: HP 1820-48G Switch (J9981A)
- SW2: HP 1820-48G Switch (J9981A)
- SW3: HPE OfficeConnect 1820-24G Switch (J9980A)
All devices are in the same VLAN (192.168.0.0/24), with the gateway and DNS server set to 192.168.0.1.
Currently, the switches are connected as follows:
- SW1 Trunk (Port 50, 51) ↔ SW2 Trunk (Port 50, 51)
- SW2 Trunk (Port 46, 48) ↔ SW3 Trunk (Port 24, 25)
Questions:
- Is this connection scheme optimal for the network?
- What additional configurations should I apply to:
- Prevent loops.
- Ensure high performance.
- Simplify network management.
Here’s what I have configured so far:
- RSTP (802.1w) is enabled on all switches.
- BPDU Protection is enabled on ports.
I’m not using multiple VLANs or multicast traffic at this time.
Thank you for your assistance!
