PCL code for Printing IDAutomationMICR

Hi,

I want to be able to print numbers in the IDAutomationMICR fonts which is a font used to print the routing and check numbers on checks. My text file looks hasa the following PCL code:

<ESC>(s1p10.0h12.0v0s0b24700T
12345
<ESC>(10U<ESC>(s0p12h12.0v0s0b0T

However, this code does not work when I print the text file. Any ideas on what else I can try? Thanks in advace

Re: PCL code for Printing IDAutomationMICR

The primary factor is what printer you're using and how it's connected to your OpenVMS system.  There aren't many true PCL output devices that work using true, native PCL on OpenVMS.  Frankly I wasn't aware of any commodity printer with an ASCII or networked interface that was capable of using MICR "ink."  The standard OpenVMS print facilities shouldn't be changing your output to the device but there are several combinations of "downstream" interfaces that might not provide the result you're expecting.  DCPS isn't "the answer," it's primary targets are higher-end printers that use bi-directional PostScript and has modules that try to convert from many printer languages TO PostScript.  There's another tool, from GrayMatter software, that may have PCL capabilities but without any printer information it's impossible to recomment their solutions casually.

You might also look into creating your own Device Control Library specifically for your printer and some optional printer/queue settings.  What you're hoping to do may not be a simple thing either.  A whole "check" isn't all printed with MICR ink or font, some of it will be in a more general font and using a generic ink or toner.
