Product Number for Instant Support, why?

Where on your HP Configuration Page does it say what that the printer's Product Number is?

If I have a Serial Number why do I need a Product Number to get support?
I'll give your web site the serial number - you give me back a list of products that could be assigned to that serial # and I'll pick my product.
