Confused between SIM and System management homepage ?

Hi Everyone,

Can anyone shed some light in this matter please ?

Which one is supposed to be installed in the management server central (eg. one server only) ?

Which one must be included in every single HP server to be deployed around the data center ?

Any link to the PDF and study material will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Best regards,

Re: Confused between SIM and System management homepage ?

SMH: Systems Management Homepage - Web based Management Interface installed on servers.

SIM: Systems Insight Manager - Central Management and Monitoring software. Installed on a single server and talks to System Management Agents installed on servers.

Both are free to use.

Re: Confused between SIM and System management homepage ?

ok, so SMH --> can be installed in every single Server

SIM --> must only be installed on one server per domain, thus SIM communicate with SMH

cmiiw ?

"SIM --> must only be installed on one server per domain, thus SIM communicate with SMH"

Typically, SIM is installed on only 1 server. There are differernt configurations.

SIM doesn't directly talk to the "SMH", but rather the Management Agents that are installed and running on the servers. The agents are a separate installable package, or both can be installed via the Proliant Support Pack.

The SMH also talks to the Management Agents to present information about the server to you via Web Page.

As for domains... your SIM server and monitor servers in multiple domains. You just need to specify different domain credentials for those servers outside of the domain the SIM Server is a member of.... if it is a member of a domain.

Re: Confused between SIM and System management homepage ?

So can i make it like this then:

install the SIM agent through PSP and then the SMH can be uninstalled since the HP Proliant server is currently managed through SIM via CMS ?

Re: Confused between SIM and System management homepage ?

Well you can run only the agents without SMH, I do that with all our our linux ProLiants. The SIM is a windows box with SMH installed tho.

But some stuff requires a installed SMH on all systems, like the Version Control Repository.
