ESX Deployment Issue - Cannot Connect to FTP

Hi,
I am having issues with deploying ESX 3.50 Update 2 using RDP version 3.81.

I keep getting the error "Could not connect to FTP Server" midway through the scripted ESX Install.

- I have re-installed the Software, which includes the configuration of DSLIB.

- I have also configured the DSLIB in IIS manually.

- I have regenerated the LINUXPE Images.

- I have tested connectivity to FTP:// via a different windows server and CAN connect succesfully.

- I have tried a different Service Account.

I have seen this error in the past, and i have done some of the above listed and resolved.

The network environment is on its own switch that includes the Blades & Deployment server. The DHCP is also on the same server as RDP.

The weird thing is, they have 2 datacenters and the issue occurs at both sites. So im not sure if its to do with networking.

Any help and advice will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Re: ESX Deployment Issue - Cannot Connect to FTP

Does the server have a dhcp or static IP adress??

As you are not in PXE boot any more when downloading and installing the packages (ftp) you need to set an IP i think.

Can also be a problem with VLAN. do your server have a default VLAN set on the network card.. if it does remove it and use the switchport to choose the VLAN.

Re: ESX Deployment Issue - Cannot Connect to FTP

I beleive if the install fails to conect to the FTP site ESX will prompt you. Did you re-enter the information (use the IP as noted in the other responce). If you enter the same information and it works then you may need to check to ensure "PortFast" is turned on at the switch [I'm assuming your deploying to a ML/DL or a pass-through on a blade interconnect).

Re: ESX Deployment Issue - Cannot Connect to FTP

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for replying.

The Server has a Static IP address, however they have 2 IP addresses that connect to different network.

I checked the config and it works fine for windows so i wouldnt have thought that would be an issue.

I even disabled 1 NIC and had the PXE address enabled. Still no joy.

There are no VLANS on the switch, as its just a segragated network.

The Server im deploying to is a BL460c and it is connect via Pass-Thru.

When ESX Prompts for details, i tried entering but it keeps failing.

Thanks

Ok..

Have you tried to specify a Static IP adress in the os config file?

Re: ESX Deployment Issue - Cannot Connect to FTP

Make sure PortFast is turned ON at the switch on for the port that goes back to the ESX server. I beleive ESX keeps restarting the port thus causing the switch to lock the port so it can check for loops. An easy test is to go from the ESX to a hub to the switch. Hubs don't check for loops.
