hi!
we are working on a complete unattended installation of windows 2003 with pxe-boot and a windows pe 2.0 (vista) image and using smartstart skripting tool kit for hardware configuration (raid etc.).
now I need hpdiscovery to read out the system ID, so I can identify the server. But the hpdiscovery utiliy, gives back the errorcode "-1" for the plugins hpdisc_plugin_basesys.dll & hpdisc_plugin_storage.dll. but the needed plugin-dlls are all locates in the same share and i deleted the *.dat-file. but with our without .dat-file i get the same error. we included all drivers from the smartstart skripting toolkit in our pe.
anyone any suggestions for fixing this problem?
thanx & greets,
alexander leutz.

Solution
Some of the Hpdiscovery plugins require WMI to be installed in your WinPE image. The plugin DLLs fail to load because they have dependencies on WMI. That is why you are getting the "-1" errorcode. The .dat file lists all the plugins that Hpdiscovery will load. If the .dat is missing, Hpdiscovery will search the current directory for plugins and load the ones it finds. See the Microsoft documenation on how to add the WMI package to your WinPE image. Hope this helps.

Re: hpdiscovery plugin error -1
Thank you a lot!
We build a new PE Boot Image with an new Windows Vista WIM.
I found in some other forums, that the first WIM Image can't boot with the a functional WMI.
Now the hpdiscovery run completey without errors.
And now the scripts works.
Thanks & a fine week for all,
Alexander Leutz.
