Linux (RHEL5.2): HP Array Configuration, HP Insight Diagnostics from the Command Line

Hi,
We want to check and, if necessary, diagnose a failing disk- attached to a P400 RAID array- from the command line.

I observe that the Proliant Support Pack has a lot of packages and dependencies; eg, if you want to diagnose your disks, you'll need to do it from the web which means hpsmh which means snmp.

We don't want to install any more packages than absolutely necessary on our boxes. We don't want to open up any ports on our machines if we don't have to. Also, we have some systems that are firewall'ed from other systems. This makes it difficult or impossible to browse to a machine to run HP Insight Diagnostics. What we would like to do is: If a hard drive starts to go bad, run some diagnostics on it. We don't care if we have to reboot the machine, and maybe run off of a bootable CDROM or network booted OS. But we want to run Array Configuration and/or Insight Diagnostics from the command line. Can this be done?

Thanks.

By the way: We don't care if the utilities we use come from the ProLiant Support Pack. If there are other equivalents- and, hopefully, equivalents that are lighter and leaner- we'll be happy to use those.

Hi,

Check this thread (reply on Oct 13, 2008 15:18:59 GMT by fred). It should be of help even if it describes the methods for Windows.
