Not able to deploy default jobs after upgrading to RDP 3.8.2

We were using RDP 3.5 previosly to build ESX 3.0.1, W2K, W2k3, W2k3 64 bit and etc. We just upgraded it to RDP 3.8.2 since we need to build ESX 3.8.2.

After the upgrade, we were able to build ESX 3.8.2 but we can't build W2K, W2K3 or anything other than ESX. I heard from some people that RDP upgrade is not recommended but instead do a fresh installation of the latest RDP and import the jobs from RDP 3.5. In our case, we need to import W2K jobs from RDP 3.5. Has anyone done anything like ours? What do you recommend upgrade vs. fresh new installation of RDP 3.8.2?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Not able to deploy default jobs after upgrading to RDP 3.8.2

Make sure your servers are supported with RDP 3.8.2. Some older servers do not support the lastest version of PXE (mainly the NIC). Your PXE image will get to the server but the WinPE will fail to connect to the DS.

The W2K servers we're built with the old MS-DOS tools (Array config, hardware config, etc) and will not work under PXE 2.1.

If your using supported hardware are you using the canned scripts or some custom script you make? If it's a custom script try one of the canned scripts for W2k3 SP2 [note the SP2].

Re: Not able to deploy default jobs after upgrading to RDP 3.8.2

Thanks, Gordon.

I got it to work after removing PXE and re-installing it. I also had to use IP instead of hostname in PXE config. I used Altiris kb artible 3724 to reinstall PXE.

Only problem we have now is that we don't know how to deploy virtual machine and therefore can't deploy guest OS. The jobs from RDP 3.5 shows up as obsolete and it no longers works in RDP 3.8.2. The HP tech support told me that we have to create vm manually...

Is this right? Is there a documentation on how to deploy ESX 3.5.2, virtual machine and guest OS from RDP?

Thanks in advance.
