Problems using Smart Start 7.90 to install Win2K3 R2 on DL380 G4

Hi,

I'm trying to rebuild a couple of servers (DL380 G4) using the latest Smart Start CD that I found on the HP website (7.90). I also downloaded the Firmware Maintenance CD as well (also 7.90).

So I kicked off by upgrading the firmware to the latest versions for BIOS, Array, ILO, Disks etc..

So the spec after this was as follows:
HP DL380 G4
2 x Xeon 3.6Ghz
2GB RAM
BIOS P51 26/04/2006
Smart Array 6400 192MB v 2.80
Smart Array 6400 U320 EM Controller v 2.80
5 x 72GB 10K SCSI
2 logical disks (system disk mirrored, data over remaining 3)
ILO v 1.91

I then booted from the Smart Start CD and picked the relevant options including the express install of the PSP.

When smart start had completed I gave it the Win2K3 R2 CD and let it get on with it. When it rebooted and booted into the text mode portion of the Win2K3 install it stops with the following error:

File \$WIN_NT$.~BT\$OEM$\CPQCISSM.SYS could not be loaded. The error code is 7.
Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.

I've booted from a WinPE disk and checked the file exists, which it does. I've tried replacing the $OEM$ directory with the contents of the cp007955.exe download from hp.com. That throws up another error which basically says the entry in the unattend.txt can't be found in the txtsetup.oem.

So I'm now at the point where I'm struggling a bit. I've searched on here and Google for "error 7" in relation to cpqcissm.sys and I'm drawing a blank. Any help would be greatly received!

Thanks,

Mike

This sounds wierd.

When booting the server up with SmartStart, which option of windows are you selecting?

Please review and ensure that you're selecting your correct system.

Is your Win2k3 R2 OEM or Open? 64 or 32?

I know that when you're selecting the operating system, there's a lot of windows.

I remember that once I had this problem, but I have select the wrong Windows version.

Yeah I double checked the option and I believe it's the correct one. I'm using a Volume license version for 32bit.

I've downloaded SmartStart 7.90 again and will burn a fresh copy on Monday to make sure it's not a corrupt CD.

Thanks,

Re: Problems using Smart Start 7.90 to install Win2K3 R2 on DL380 G4

I encountered a similar problem while loading win2k3 R2 using the smartstart v7.9 cd.
First off, when i boot using the smartstart cd, all the buttons on the screens do not show up (they show up as broken image symbols). So i have to navigate by guessing the placement of those images.
Second, i am unable to run the insight diagnostics application. Whenever i try to do it, firefox complains that it cannot connect to self (127.0.0.1:xxxx)
Has anyone faced this problem?
Not to mention that win2k3 install is not complete yet, server deployment hangs at the point where the disks are being formatted.
The tech's from HP have not yet resolved this issue either.
Thanks for any help.

Is 7.4 available for download anywhere?  I've been trying to install Win2k Server / Adv Server for about 8 hours so far and still have the same error no matter which OS CD I chose to install from.  I'm using the current version 7.90 and about to attempt 8.25.
