rdp and dhcp....

hi forum,
with rdp env
yesterday I configured the DHCP and the PXE server on the same server...and I've created some images...
today the customer told me that we just have a DHCP server, so I stopped the dhcp of yesterday... and now I can't create any image.
I receive a mesg when pxe is looking for dhcp..
no boot file name recevied.
I read something about option 60.
but I don't know what I have to do?

really thanks
LF

Re: rdp and dhcp....

Hi,
Option 60 is how the DHCP server lets the client know where the PXE\RDP server is for it to obtain it's boot information.

When you install RDP it will automatically configure DHCP (if on the same server) with this information however if you use a DHCP server that is located elsewhere or was built before Altiris\RDP was installed then this step will be missing. The following document has the details on Option 60 and what it does etc:

Re: rdp and dhcp....

Hi iwsec,

so why the client doesn't get the IP addr from the DHCP, it was built before the RDP installation.

Should I do some configs on the old DHCP server?

thanks

Re: rdp and dhcp....

You shouldn't use these entries when DHCP and PXE are on seperate servers.

Are all these servers on the same subnet? if not, you need to add an ip-helper so the DHCP requests get to both the DHCP and PXE(RDP) servers.

Re: rdp and dhcp....

Hi ken,
I've reinstalled all the RDP,
and now it work.
it was a problem with the old installation:
pxe server and dhcp on the same server.
anyway I' ve put the option on the actual dhcp.
066 Boot Server Host Name

thanks

Re: rdp and dhcp....

Hello, I have the same problem, but the link

http://h200001.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/supportmanual/c00257503/c00257503.pdf

doesn'works. Can anybody sent it to me?
Or, how can I put the 060 Option in DHCP server?

When I start any Blade whithout 060 option, the blade gets IP address and start with DOS Managed, but stay "dwonloading DOS boot diskette image". I have RDP Version 2.2 with hotfix 2.

Thanks

Re: rdp and dhcp....

Hi,

In short option 60 if PXE and DHCP on same server.
Option 66 if PXE and DHCP on different Server
Option 66 and 03 if PXE and DHCP on different server and different subnet.

Option 60 is automatically installed on your DHCP server after installing PXE server from RDP cd.
So my advise is to install DHCP or make sure it is running before installng PXE server.

Re: rdp and dhcp....

I have just moved DHCP from the same server as the DS to another server. You need the following config changes

Disable DHCP on the DS.
on the new DHCP server add option 066 with the IP address of the DS

In the deployment console go to the tools menu and select PXE configuration

click on the PXE server tab and change the DHCP discovery option to "No DHCP server installed on the PXE Server"

As soon as I did this, the PXE boot started working

Good luck!
