SmartStart v8 messes up SBS 2003 R2 install
Just to save anyone the trouble I've been through, the SmartStart v8 CD (and older versions too, apparently) messes up an SBS 2003 R2 installation, at least on my DL380 G5. I don't know all the problems it causes, but for certain I know that it blocks the creation of the following registry key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap
This in turn breaks the Internet setup wizard (CEICW) with an error like "An error occurred while configuring a component". The SBS setup logs will complain about "Adding routers IP address to the intranet zone", which is due to this missing key. This also affects other services like WSUS.
I avoided using SmartStart altogether because I don't know what other problems it causes with SBS. Just do a manual install using the latest mass storage drivers on a floppy, and then install the support pack as a first step, first making sure you install SNMP from Add/Remove Windows Components.

Re: SmartStart v8 messes up SBS 2003 R2 install
After an hour and a half on the phone with HP Tech support I was told to reload without using the SmartStart CD. I had already wasted half a day with this and I didn't want to go through that again.
I figured if it was just a matter of creating this key why not do it manually? I connected to another SBS Server (we are an IT consulting firm and have several clients using various flavors of Windows Server). I exported the key and imported it into my problem server. Vioala! Fixed.

For those who don't have access to another SBS server, here's the exported key:
