Have you recently installed PSP 7.4?

Check out my thread on this:

http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=962950

HP has a new DLL that has fixed it, but not fully released. And there is an agent you can disable. Read the thread, lots of info.

Yes I have recently installed PSP 7.40. I removed the System INformation subagent from he active agents in the HP Management Agents like the HP support document stated and it did not make any difference. Still running 100%.

Re: 100% CPU Usage on a windows 2000 server

What model server is it and is there a UPS attached to the server? There is an issue with some of the 100 series servers with XR UPSs attached can have this issue. If you think it is related simply unplug the serial cord from the server and see if the CPU time immediatly drops.
If it does then we can work out the issue further.

Let us know.

Re: 100% CPU Usage on a windows 2000 server

I have found a process RDS.exe running and taking up all the CPU. I do not know what it is. I have found that it is spyware and I have found that it is something for Arcserve Brightstor software. Not sure what it is. I have ran spybot against the server but did not take care of it.

Re: 100% CPU Usage on a windows 2000 server

rds.exe is a process associated with the OmniBack II Raima Database Server from HP.

Note: rds.exe can also be associated with the TrojanSpy.Win32.Delf Keylogger. This malicous process allows attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data.

James, did you have HP DataProtector (ex OmniBackup) Cell Manager installed on this computer?

Re: 100% CPU Usage on a windows 2000 server

Sorry bout that. Don't know why. The link still works for me. Here's the text:

DESCRIPTION
An HP ProLiant server operating in a Microsoft Windows environment and loading the HP Insight Server Agents for Windows Version 7.40 may experience high CPU utilization, resulting in degraded system performance. CPU utilization may reach 50 to100 percent and remain high on multiprocessor systems. Systems with a single CPU may reach 100 percent.

A call responsible for the memory code initialization process from the Server Agents in PSP 7.40 to the Windows Health driver becomes trapped in an endless loop, causing the processor utilization to rise.

SCOPE
Any ProLiant server running any one of the following Microsoft Windows operating systems and loading the HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Version 7.40.

Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Web Edition
Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003

RESOLUTION
To prevent high CPU utilization from occurring, disable the System Information subagent from the HP Management Agents applet in the Windows Control Panel by performing the following steps:

Launch the HP Management Agents applet located in the Windows Control Panel.
Select the "Services" tab.
Select the "System Information" subagent located in the "Active Agents" panel.
Click the "Remove" button to move the subagent to the "Inactive Agents" panel.
Click OK and exit the HP Management Agents applet.

A future version of the HP Insight Server Agents for Windows will prevent this condition from occurring. This advisory will be updated when additional information becomes available.
