101-I/O ROM Error on ProLiant 3000

I had just replaced a failed drive in the array, then I installed the latest Software Support Pack remotely from our other 3000. I now get this error. Any ideas? Was this caused by the support software upgrade? What further diagnostics can I do (won't boot)? This support pack is running fine on our other 3000. Thanks!

Run the Diagnostics, if it shows any faults Replace failed assembly as indicated

I can't get the machine to boot without removeing the array controller. If I remove it and let it get past the Options ROM test, then reinsert it, it is not recognized, so it can't be tested. Is there some way to get past the error so that I can get into diagnostics? Thanks!

Do you have another controller to use in it's place? I've never seen a controller cause a 101 error - however it certainly makes sense that it could.

The only thing that I'd think with the Support Pack that could cause this if it were to update firmware on the sys board or the controller. But for the most part - everything on the SP is driver related.

If you leave the controller out - you could update the system ROM since it will no longer hang.

Big box, it wouldn't be easy, however, take system to Min: memory, no PCI card, no drives, clear cache, remove Power, reset System board, remove CMOS battery, use generic keyboard and mouse, no external devices, disconnect CD ROM, and tapes drives, try to Flash BIOS http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/romtabl.html if Problem still exist replace Sys Board (might memory Board if used in your model).

I have seen this before, replace the SmartArray Controller, (Or use a flash programmer to copy the eeprom from a working controller, I have do this on 221 and 3100 controller without any problems)

Re: 101-I/O ROM Error on ProLiant 3000

All,

Thanks for your responses! Update: I put the offending controller in one of our ML307s and I was able to get the "F1 to continue" prompt. It still seems that it hangs diagnostics when inpecting the computer's hardware, and it seemed to hang the ROMPaq for the Options ROM at the same point (I was going to try to flash the ROM). Is it toast? What replaces the 3200 controller ince it is so old? Thanks!
