1777 Post Error

Hello,

Working on a customer site, one of their SCSI Hard drives failed. After we replaced it and rebuilt the array a 1700 Error was coming up which is normal due to the firmware of the new drive and such. Turns out that the user has never upgraded firmware in 5 years. We decided to upgrade the firmware using the maintance firmware CD 7.3.

Everything we fine and the error went away, however now I have a new error.

1777 Slot 0 Device Array - Proliant Storage Enclosure Problem detected.
SCSI Port 2:
Wide SCSI Transfer Failed, Check SCSI Cables.

We were not into the hardware so I am wondering why the cables would be the problem, updating the firmware would that have updated the diagnostics on this device and thats why it detects this problem now?

What are your thoughts on this problem and a resolution.

Thanks all

Re: 1777 Post Error

Check the server's SCSI Backplane. I had this same fault (1777) last week and it turned out to be the backplane. On this occasion it needed to be replaced but you could just try reseating the backplane and all the drives..

Not sure what hardware you're talking about but this same fault is quite common on the new DL360 G4 servers also.

Re: 1777 Post Error

Hi.

My company bought a ML350G4 (without a smart array controller) a year ago.
Last week I installed a smart array controller 642.
I've downloaded the firmware manteinance CD and made the necessary updates.
Just took the SCSI cable and disconnected from the system board and tied to the internal Port 2 connector.
When I boot up the server I receive the following message:

1777 Slot 0 Device Array - Proliant Storage Enclosure Problem detected.
SCSI Port 2:
Wide SCSI Transfer Failed, Check SCSI Cables.

I've installed Windows 2000 Server and seems to work fine.

Any ideas?
