1850R hangs on boot with a 177 config not complete error
I have a PIII 600 x2 proliant server that has 4 73 Gb drives and runs W2003 server. It has a smart array 221 controller and was not configured orginally with smart start. The server hangs everytime it is rebooted with the message "177 configuration not complete controller order not set up; F1 to continue or F10 to enter system partition utilities" Hit to F10 and it tells you SPU is not available. I have updated the system BIOS the array controller etc same error... and I can't find a work around (or .exe) for the SPU. I know I deserve this problem running such an old machine, but I inherited the problem. :)

You can run System configuration utility from SmartStart 5.50 CD:

I saw this utility but it didn't mention 2003. This will not destroy the existing container will it?

Re: 1850R hangs on boot with a 177 config not complete error
Gregg,
Boot from SmartStart and run "System configuration utility"
>>saw this utility but it didn't mention 2003
SmartStart is OS "unaware".
SmartStart 5.50 doesn't have windows 2003 installation option, but you don't need install windows 2003, right? Even if you need to install windows 2003 you can use SmartStart 5.50...
Anyway, SmartStart 5.50 version is last SmartStart version for Proliant 1850.
>>This will not destroy the existing >>container will it?
No, if you will not run "System erase utilty" from SmartStart CD :-)
