580 G2 Running RHEL 2.1 ASR's under prolonged system load.

I have 4 way G2-580 that ASR's after the machine has been under prolonged system load for about 3 hours. I run all 8 processors (hyperthreaded) at 100% and after 3 hours the machine just ASR's.

There is nothing in the messages file that indicated an OS problem, but the machine runs fine if the system load is random (i.e. not pegged constantly).

I updated the system ROM yesterday, but predictably the machine died again at about the 3 hour time frame.



Has anyone encountered this before?

Make sure you have the newest bios loaded. there are major fixes for just this problem in it. Intel released a micro-code fix.

Boot off the diskette and flash your bios. Let us know if this clears up?

I downloaded and installed CP004889.scexe yesterday.

It is the:
Online ROM Flash Component for Linux - HP ProLiant DL580 G2 (P27)
version 2004.07.22 (22 Jul 04)



After i rebooted the machine it came back up and i verified that the versions matched what was in the docs.

That did not resolve the issue. The machine still ASR's after about 3 hours.
