Adding a CPU in ML330
Hi I was just wondering what the chance of success would be if I added a Xeon 2.8Ghz 800FSB to a ML330. The current processor is a Xeon 2.8Ghz 533FSB and was just wondering whether there would be any compatibility issues.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Re: Adding a CPU in ML330
Hi Paul,
As per the quick specs the chipset supports only 533-MHz Front Side Bus.
Chipset: ServerWorks Grand Champion SL Chipset with 533-MHz Front Side Bus
HP ProLiant ML330 Generation 3 Specs:

Re: Adding a CPU in ML330
Okay thats a shame then, 533FSB Xeon chips are alot rarer and therefore more expensive these days.
Another quick question, in the quick specs for the ML330 its specified that the motherboard takes PC2100 RAM. I was just wondering whether I could buy some ECC registered PC2700 RAM and run it at a lower speed (I.E. PC2100, 266mhz). I am asking this because HP are asking $2k AUD for 4GB of ECC registered PC2100 RAM and can obtain 4GB of ECC registered PC2700 RAM for half the price.
Cheers
Paul
