Good day all.
Currently I have 6 x 600GB SAS Drives (Raid 5) installed in my HP ProLiant ML350P Gen8 Server. I would like to add two more SAS (2 TB EA) drives in the remaining two drive slots of my SFF bay. However, I would like them to be available as conventional drives that are independent of my raid array. Your guidance and input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Peter

SolutionHello Peter,
Please find the instructions below to configure the additional drives :
Restart the Server and tap F10 when prompted on the POST screen to get into Intelligent Provisioning.
Select Perform Maintenance option once it loads upto Intelligent Provisioning
Select the Smart Storage Adminstrator.
Select the Storage controller on the left and click on the Conifugure option on the right
Click on Create Array
Select the drives that you want to add and click on Create Array at the bottom
On the next page, select the RAID option from the radio button that appears.
Click on Create Logical Drive at the bottom
This will create the RAID for the additional drives that have been installed.

Re: Adding Drives to my Proliant Server
You may have missed this statement in my original post: "I would like them to be available as conventional drives that are independent of my raid array. "
I would like certain virtual machines to use these new additional drives independent of my existing raid array

Re: Adding Drives to my Proliant Server
Did you mean "seperate RAID configuration" or "Spares configuration" for these 2 drives? Can you please clarify ?

Re: Adding Drives to my Proliant Server
Hello @SydUmar_1
Forgive me if I was not clear in my last few responses. Currently there are 6 x 600GB SAS drives (Raid 5) installed and in use in my SFF drive cage. As you are aware I have two spare drive slots. I purchased 2 x 2.TB SAS drives and will be placing them in the remaining drive slots. I do not want them to be part of my current Raid 5 configuration but rather they be accessed as totally separate drives, For example:
I plan on running:
Nextcloud as a VM in VMWare ESXi and have 1 x 2.0 TB drive dedicated to it.
TrueNAS as a Vm in VMWare ESXi and have 1 x 2.0TB drive dedicate to it.
I trust that I have made my situation a little clearer. Thank you again for your patience and assistance. Peter

Re: Adding Drives to my Proliant Server
Hello Peter,
Many thanks for the clarification. I have understood the query. However, the controller does not have a HBA/Mixed mode option. You will have to create RAID 0 for 2 individual drives.
You will have to follow the same steps as mentioned in my previous post :
1. Restart the Server and tap F10 when prompted on the POST screen to get into Intelligent Provisioning.
2. Select Perform Maintenance option once it loads upto Intelligent Provisioning
3. Select the Smart Storage Adminstrator.
4. Select the Storage controller on the left and click on the Configure option on the right
5. Click on Create Array
6. Select 1 drive and click on Create Array at the bottom
7. On the next page, select RAID 0 option from the radio button that appears.
8. Click on Create Logical Drive at the bottom
Repeat the same steps (Steps 4 through

Re: Adding Drives to my Proliant Server
Worked like a charm @SydUmar_1 . Thank you again for your amazingly quick response and expertise. Immensely appreciated.
Once the 2 x 2TB were configured as Raid 0 I posted a related question here:
