after os reinstall - fan stays on (loud)

I just reinstalled win2k adv server after a crash.
Everything seems fine - except the fan never turns OFF. Is there some way to fix this? It is very loud.

It used to only be on during the power-up phase of the boot process.

It is an ML370 Proliant.

Did you install the Compaq Support Paq after you did the install? If you used SmartStart to do an assisted intergration, it should have done this.

Unfortunately, I do not have access to the compaq cds that came with the machine here. Is there another way to get the software - or achieve the same results without going through another re-install?

Depending on the server model, the fans are controlled either by the OS driver or by the ROM (G2 or higher models).
Yours probably needs the OS driver (System Management driver), which you can find here:
