array configuration problems
I recently added a 431 raid controller to our ML350 and connected a external drive enclosure [4314r].
After following the installation instructions to the letter, I booted the server with the smartstart cd included and ran the array configuration utility. I created two arrays, one mirror and one raid 5. Saved the config and rebooted.
After restarting I got a -non system disk- error, so restarted again and went into the bios. The 431 controller was the first boot option so I changed it so that the internal disks on the embedded scsi boots first [the disk with NT installed]. After another reboot it still gave a non system disk error and the bios showed the correct boot order.
I then placed the NT disk into another server and found the disk blank!?
After reinstalling NT onto a new disk, and going back into the array configuration by booting from the smart start cd, the our original configurations we still there. So everything was working fine. NT could see the logical raid drives.
A few days later i installed two new drives into the enclosure and booted the server with the smart start cd and ran the array configuration utility to configure the new drives. Saved the config and rebooted. Again I was faced with a non system disk error. The bios was set to boot the 431 first so changed that back so my NT disk was first. After the restart it still displayed non-system disk. The NT disk had been erased again!
Reinstalled the OS on the same disk and everything is running again but i'am somewhat nervous about adding new configurations to my raid array.
Spoke with compaq tech support in the UK and we went through various elimination procedures. They said I was'nt doing anything wrong in the way of installation and array configuration, so the problem is still unresolved.
Anyone got any ideas?
Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
