ASR during backups
We have two ML570 servers running Veritas NetBackup. Within the past week and a half, we've had 5 ASRs. Three happened during heavy loading and the other two happened under no server loading. Each server has the same PCI cards: 5302 Array Controller, two Adaptec 2944UW SCSI adapters, two NC6134 gigabit NICs, and a RILOE board. All BIOS and drivers are the latest. The insight log does not give any detailed information. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: ASR during backups
yes....ASR while a good thing since you do not come in in the morning to a downed server does not report ANY log errors whatsoever...it can be set for software or hardware lockup...what is suggested is to go into your F10 and disable asr...let the errors occur and mark down what they are for further analysis by compaq or by yourself...generally what happens is software locks up and might even blue screen the ssytem..then ASR kicks in and you dont know what the error was...doing the above will cause a lockup with a possible blue screen but allows you to determine what failed..then once the problem is recognized it can be dealt with..once fixed re-enable asr
We are here for a good time, not a long time!

Re: ASR during backups
Well, finally some is experiencing the same problem I am having....we are running Veritas Netbackup DataCenter 3.4 on a Solaris....almost the same configuration...our NT2000 box is connected to a SAN disk (4 LUNS 320gigs each). Our ASR only happens when a full backup is started. We previously had a Compaq 10/100 network card...backups were running fine, it was when we upgraded our NIC card to the NC6134 Gigabit card....the funning thing about my problem is that 4 hours into the full backups it ASR's then the Server backs up OK...this server we are only using it for storing PST's so during the day there are about 1000 people connected to it... it does not do a ASR....I was wondering if we should be tweaking the gigabit card...not sure how to do it.. we just acepted the default values on the card....we have also Compaq fibre cards two (emulex) or Compaqs equivilant driver....Thanks Frank
