Someone ordered a Proliant DL385 gen10 server with one single AMD CPU installed. In addition he ordered an ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 Gen4 card and a Samsung 1TB Nvme M.2 SSD.
I'm trying to assemble this setup, but the ASUS card is 4mm to wide. I can mount the ASUS card in the riser, but when I try to insert the riser the wall of the server interfers with the edge of the ASUS card.
If I move the riser cartridge to the second position (in the middle of the server) everything installs smoothly, but when I try to boot I get a message that the PCI express card is now connected to unpopulated CPU socket 2 so it cannot be used.
The question is: can I move my CPU from socket 1 to socket 2? Or will the server fail to boot if Socket 1 is unpopulated? If so - what can I do???

SolutionHello,
For the server to power on, it has to have a processor popoulated in slot 1. For the expansion slot that is in question, the processor has to be installed in the second slot for the installed card to be recognized by the server and be usable, this is by design.

Re: ASUS Hyper M.2 X16 Gen 4 card in a DL385 gen10 server with AMD CPU ... problem
So the conclusion is that this card (ASUS Hyper M.2 x16 gen4) will not fit in a single-AMD-CPU DL385 Gen10 server.
In a dual-AMD-CPU DL385 it fits physically but it remains to be tested that it works with the HP BIOS.
