ATI RAGE IIC video controller

When I attempt to access display settings, server crashes with a "VGA.DLL" error. Downloaded latest ATI driver and still can't fix problem. System "BSODs" at every attempt to access video resolution.

I too have been having the same exact problem and Compaq support couldn't fix? It's driving me nuts...

Re: ATI RAGE IIC video controller

Was smartstart used to install the server, or was this a manual installation? Did the server work for a while after installation then fail, or was it immidiate. Was any additional software (pc anywere, etc) loaded? Was the video controller detected properly, or did it show up as VGA in the device list? If you're still having this kind of problem , email to support@compaq.com or call 1-800-ok-compaq - we'll be glad to help you get to the bottom of this.

Re: ATI RAGE IIC video controller

The Compaq DL360 server was built using SmartStart, running fine with NT4.0 SP5, Compaq Insight Agents v4.8, and PCAnywhere ver9.1 (Win2k comp). As I did with the other Win2k upgrades on the DL360, I unistalled PCAnyWhere, ran the Compaq Win2k Primer utility, restarted the server and ran the Win2k upgrade. After the upgrade the server was working fine. I'm not quite sure which Video mode and driver we were using at that time. I then proceeded to use the Compaq NTSSD5.0 utility to upgrade the Compaq drivers and agents on Win2k. This ran fine but after we restarted the server only VGA mode would work? I contacted Compaq tech-sup and they had me manually run the ATI video driver update - which still didn't work. I'm still having issues with the Video mode and driver, the server will only boot with VGA? If I try another mode the server screen looks like the windows thatch wallpaper.

Re: ATI RAGE IIC video controller

Couple of things here... Did you reinstall pcAnywhere before you tried updating the drivers again? If so, you have to remove pcAnywhere (bug with ATI drivers) and then try the update.

Otherwise, do you have a RIB board involved here?

No - I do not have a RIB board. But I have tried to unistalled PcAnywhere and then tried the update with no avail.

Re: ATI RAGE IIC video controller

Please uninstall PCAnywhere again and then set your video to standard VGA.
Now load video drivers with the Compaq Support Paq CP000296.exe which can be found at http://www.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/9138.html
