Backgorund parity initialization

NT 4.0 Cluster on two nodes (DL580)
RA 4100 with 4 36.4 GB drives. Running Exchange 5.5. We added two more 36.4 GB drives. The Array configuration utlity gives us this message and we do not have access to the additional disk space.

Background parity initialization is currently queued or in progress on Compaq RA4000 Controller in RAID Array D037DBX10091 on the following logical drives:

Logical Drive 1

This is a normal operation that is necessary to initialize logical drives that have a fault tolerance with parity. If background parity initialization is queued, it will start when I/O is performed on the drives. When background parity initialization completes, the performance of the logical drives will improve.

What I need to know is if I shut down Exchange services how long will it take for the Background parity check to complete.

Thanks.

Re: Backgorund parity initialization

no way to tell..there are way too many factors...A) depends on the size of the drives B) the speed of the drives C) the usage by users on the system D) the rebuild priority setting hi/med/o? and many other factors...if i had to guess..anywher between 4 and 16 hours
We are here for a good time, not a long time!
