To All,
We have a newly acquired DL-580 G3 which came with Windows2003 server installed. One of my applications requires Windows2000 Server. Has anyone experienced any problems with re-installing W2K Server on a box that came with W2K3 Server or advise about any gotchas?
Thanks in asdvance,
Chuck Ciesinski

Solution
See http://www.hp.com/servers/manage --> SmartStart --> Support Matrices --> Windows and you'll find that the DL 580 G3 is supported on both Windows 2000 Server and Advanced Server. If you have any qualms about WS03 leaving something behind that will interfere with your W2K installation, use the System Erase utility on your SmartStart CD before you start the install.

Re: Backwards Compatability?
Chuck:
I have never had any problems wiping out an OS to re-install something else.
You can do as David suggests with the System Erase Utility or, if you have any reason at all to keep the original system in tact... swap out the hdd's if you have some spare and keep the originals on the side. Still run the erase utility though not totally necessary, but then you have an absolute clean system.
Drop the Smart Start CD in and get your Win2k CD ready.
