Battery\super-cap for Smart Array P441 on Gen8 server
Because I had to get somethiung working NOW without waiting to order parts, I stole a P441 controller from a dl380 Gen9 and plugged it in to a DL360p gen8. Now that the immediate requirement for a server has been fulfilled, I need to get it working properly. It works no problem, but write cache is disabled because it has no battery. The issue is thjis gen 9 controller has a battery cable that plugs in to the mothyerboard riser and uses a shared battery. I need a new battery to use for the P440 in its new home in a gen8 server but the controller has a 3 pin connector that the battery cable pluggs in to and the only batteries I can find have cables with more than 3 pin connectors.
The simplest would be to find a battery that I can just plug in directly to the controller. Does anyone know of a 3 pin battery or super-capaciter that works directly with the P441 controller?
If there is no such thing assume I will have to buy a new controller that works with this DAS box and with a gen8 DL server such as a P421

Re: Battery\super-cap for Smart Array P441 on Gen8 server
Hi @ENKON
The P440 controller requires a battery or super-capacitor connected via a 3-pin header to enable write cache. While the Gen9 P440 controller uses a shared battery connected to the motherboard riser, the Gen8 DL360p does not support this configuration. Therefore, you need to install a compatible battery or super-capacitor directly on the P440 controller.
Please have a look at the attached attached link, you might find it useful.

Mamatha

Re: Battery\super-cap for Smart Array P441 on Gen8 server
OK, based onh the parts surfer you linked:
"Smart Array P441 PCIe3 x8 SAS controller - External 2-port x4 mini-SAS HD connectors, 4GB of flashed back write cache (FBWC) memory, 12 Gb/sec transfer rate SAS, 6 Gb/sec transfer rate SATA - Does not include battery, FBWC cannot be ordered separately"
So, there is no campatibale battery to plug in directly yto the P441.
Unless someone has some personal experience with a battery that does work, I'll be buying a P421 with a 660091-001 HP FBWC Capacitor Pack
