We have several disks BD30087B53 with HPB5 firmware. We try to update firmware to HPBC, but can't do it. We tru to use different Firmware Maintenance CD from 7.70 (with HPBC(A)) till 8.30 (with HPBC(D)), but result is the same.
WriteBuffer failed with retirn code: 1040.
Hardware update: 410
CDB: 3B 7 0 8 80 0 0 80 0 0
Call Status: 0
Command Status: 0
Scsi Status: 2
Sense Data: 70 0 5 0 0 0 0 A 0 0 0 0 26 84.....

We made a lot of eksperiments on MSA1000 library and with different servers. But still cant update the firmware.
Have anybody any ideas?

Re: BD30087B53 disk unable to update firmware
I've just try to follow your recomendations.
I've try to make flashing like supplemental updates with several versions of Firmware Maintenance CD and try to use HPB6, HPB7, HPB9, HPBA firmware.
HPB6, HPB7: "Cannot load HAM module..."
HPB9, HPBA: "WriteBuffer failed with return code..."
Cheers

Re: BD30087B53 disk unable to update firmware
Maybe this will help:
http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1061313
-or-
Try updating the drives in a system backplane rather than the MSA1000.

Re: BD30087B53 disk unable to update firmware
We try to do it in the MSA1000, in the DL380 G4, in the ML570 G2 with SA6400... many variants. But result is the same :( Mysticism :(
Cheers

Re: BD30087B53 disk unable to update firmware
We couldn't find the decision unfortunaly and ceased an any attempt to upgrade firmware on this type of disks. We've try a different approach - from Maintenece CD, from floppy - doesn't matter.
Good luck!

Re: BD30087B53 disk unable to update firmware
I am also stuck updating firmware!
Case: I am trying to upgrade HP SCSI Ultra320 (BD30087B53) firmware on 17 disks. After I did upgrade the controller firmware (2,84) it states at boot up that my disks must at least have firmware version HPB9
Hardware:
Proliant DL380 (firmware p51 07/19/2007)
HP SCSI Ultra320 (BD30087B53) 17 pieces (firmware HPB7)
SmartArray 6i (192MB, battery cache) (firmware 2,84)
SmartArray 6400 (320MB, battery cache) (firmware 2,84)
HP Storageworks (SmartArray 6400)
I have tried to use different Firmware Maintenance CD 7.40, 8.30-0 and 9.20B-0. Also tried to add substitute firmware:
HPB8
HPB9
HPBC(A)
HPBC(B)
HPBC(A)
HPBC(D)
I have also tried to upgrade firmware (Maintenance CD 7.40) thru DL360 G4 SmartArray 6i (firmware 2,36, no battery cache) and another DL380 G4, same results. Also tried to only upgrade with one disk, two disks, same results.
Hoping that for an solution, thanks in advance!
Regards Sergey
