BL35p w/QLogic 2312 HBA BIOS problem

I am kind of a newbie in the fiber/SAN arena so please forgive me if I am missing something obvious.

I have lots of BL20p's and BL35p's. I have so far deployed about 6 of the 20's and have not had any problem booting them from SAN.

I am starting to work on some of the 35's and the OS installed fine but on first boot it will not boot from the SAN.

The only thing I have seen so far that seems strange to me is, on the BL20's in the QLogic 2312 v1.45 HBA BIOS there is a setting called Connection Options and it is set to 2. But on the BL35's, which also have the 2312, that setting is 0 with no option for either a 1 or 2.

When I looked up what that setting does, it sound pretty intergral. 0=loopback connection whereas 2=Fabric connection mode. So I am fairly certain this is the problem. I just don't see why with the exact same HBA model and BIOS I wouldn't have the same options for connection settings. They are both connecting to the same Cisco 9140 fiber switch.

Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply Oleg but that did not seem to help. The description in the link you sent me sounds like my problem but their solution did not help. The blade sees the SAN fine, it just won't boot from it.

On the second link, there isn't any internal drive on this blade. They are diskless.

I guess you use only one FC port per server and second disabled ?

if you had it resolved-please update ..

also here is few reset UG

Re: BL35p w/QLogic 2312 HBA BIOS problem

Sorry it took a long time to update. I appreciate your help. On the BL20's booting from the SAN regardless of the boot order set in the blade BIOS was automatic because there are no internal drives. For some reason the BL35's are not the same and once I went into the boot order area and made the fiber HBA the first boot device it started working. Took me a day or two to finally look there then spent the next day hitting myself on the head for not doing so earlier.

made fiber HBA card the first boot device in Blade BIOS setting.

Thanks for update Kennon

So in this case EB050217_CW01 (2nd link was related for boot order) the only difference at the time when advisory created 2005, option from system ROM didn't functioned as expected, however Boot order play a role.
