Blade Self-Identification

We are implementing a symmetrical blade system. To coordinate error messages with the actual blade that the error occurred on, I need to get the blade number. Currently, I have implemented a WMI query for this using the SMBIOS type of 204 (0xcc). This structure identifies the blade. My question is two-fold: Is this the right way to do it, and will it continue to work for the foreseeable future?

Re: Blade Self-Identification

Hi Steve,

this is not the way to get an authoritive HP answer, log a service call if you want answer from HP...
Further noone can guarantee you that it will work forever. I can't understand what exactly you want to do, but imho it seems that the problem is not even HP bladesystem related - it is for servers in general.

To get info, you can use either WBEM(WMI) or SNMP.

Can you please explain exactlier what you have configured and what you want to achieve

Re: Blade Self-Identification

We are utilizing all 16 blades to perform a common function (all running the same processes). In our programs we need to be able to identify which blade an individual process is running on - so when a failure occurs it can be logged against the proper blade and corrective action taken - such as turn that blade off. Within our programs, what design does HP suggest we use to identify the c7000 Bladesystem slot that a particular blade is in? As previously stated, we have implemented a solution that currently works - but want direction from HP if this is not the preferred method.

Re: Blade Self-Identification

If you "want direction" from HP, log a call with HP, or talk to your Account Manager if you have one
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!
