Boot problem/blank screen/unexpected hangs
Our Proliant 1600 server (P-III, 500MHz, 3x9.1GB + 3x36GB external, CD-ROM, Floppy, Tape, W2k Server) has suddenly started to hang unexpectedly, with blue or black screen. Once got blue screen with 'Memory parity error'. Was able to reboot and ran a memory check, which reported all OK. Now the server won't even boot. The power is on, fans are working, tape station lights are on, but all disk lights are now off. Screen is completely black, does not even show the 'Compaq'-logo at start-up.
What's wrong? Is the motherboard dead? Anyone have any advise on how to proceed to find out what's wrong?
Thx,
Stein

Re: Boot problem/blank screen/unexpected hangs
Hi, my sugg option in this case is to receipt after stripping down all pci and other device. Keep memory lower than 1 gig. Keep out no non essential . Is it all Compaq memory. Run a promted diag as well. I hope this will help. No KVM switch? key boad and mouse directly plug in the stantdard connecton. Hope this will help.
