Boot Proliant DL360 G3 from USB Drive
I am wondering if there is a way to get a Proliant DL360 G3 to boot from a USB connected DVD drive? I am trying to install W2k8 Server and the on board drives are CDs and teh media I have is DVD.
Thanks in advance!

take it out and put a DVD drive in...
see attachment.
other option may be to connect your local DVD-drive using ILO.

Re: Boot Proliant DL360 G3 from USB Drive
W2008 is supported from G4 up :
Server platform ROM family ROM date (minimum)
ProLiant DL320s W04 04/06/07
ProLiant DL360 G4 P52 07/16/07
ProLiant DL360 G4p P54 07/16/07
ProLiant DL360 G5* P58 08/21/07
ProLiant DL365* A10 09/20/07
IMPORTANT
Windows Server 2008 uses DVD media and requires a server configured with either a USB DVD-ROM or an IDE DVD-ROM for local installations. For customers without IDE DVD-capable servers, copy the Windows Server 2008 media to a network share.
Current iLO firmware contains support for virtual DVD media; however, the installation is much slower than local installations.

Re: Boot Proliant DL360 G3 from USB Drive
Format an usb key fat32.
Copy the windows 2008 x32 files from dvd on this USB drive using 1 on 1 copy. (control a => control c=> control v)
Use smartstart 8.25 x32 (latest version for this DL380)
Choose windows 2008 standard.(or the version you want)
When prompted for the source files select usb device and flat files.
When promted for the usb key insert it on the rear of the server.
Choose root1 usb root1. (or something like that, cannot recall the message)
Server will copy very small file from usb and will reboot. (do not interrupt this) and remove the smartstart from the cd drive in the server (It should already have been ejected)
De not remove the usb key as during the next reboot smartstart will copy all files to local hardddisk.

Re: Boot Proliant DL360 G3 from USB Drive
The easy fix for this is to replace the cd drive with a dvd drive
