Booting from SCSI drive on Smart Array controller 641 - ML350 Server
I have just obtained an ML350-G3 server that came with 6-146GB SCSI hard-drives installed as Raid-5. I have separated these Raid-5 drives, into 6 separate 146GB drives, and am trying to install a NetWare 6.0 OS onto the first drive.
I have been running Smart Start 7.92, (Both in assisted moded, and Manual mode) to try to get these drives ready for NetWare. IS THERE A DIFFERENT (EARLIER) VERSION OF SMARTSTART THAT I SHOULD BE USING?
I have unfortunately run the "erase configuration utility" far too many times and cannot seem to get out of this mode. Since there was no OS installed when I received the system, Smart Start sees this as a fresh install which it is, but I never see the MAINTAIN SERVER option so that I can initialize the drives. IS THERE A DIFFERENT (EARLIER) VERSION OF SMARTSTART THAT I SHOULD BE USING?
I have two other ML350 servers running Netware, but they both have an IDE drive ("C") installed from which I boot the server, and I had no difficulty installing DR DOS 6 on these IDE drives.
My objective is to be able to boot this newest server from ONLY the SCSI drive(s). I have actually booted the server from a DR DOS 6 floppy and have attempted to run FDISK but once I get to the prompt asking me t enter the DISK LABEL, the process just hangs.
What steps do I need to take in order to be able to boot this server from a SCSI drive?
I appreciate any/all prompt responses.
Thanks...Dave Kalling (dkalling@sbcglobal.net)

Re: Booting from SCSI drive on Smart Array controller 641 - ML350 Server
Hi,
SmartStart 7.92 is not supported on this server.
You should use 7.91 and below.
Refer to this link and read the Release Notes.
Click here to download SmartStart 7.91
Thank You!
