bus error when trying to add pci multi i/o controller card

hello,
I'm working on an ml350 G3 machine running sles 9. This server has only 1 serial port which I'm using for UPS battery communication.
I need to run a fax service on this machine so I need to use another serial port so I purchased a PCI serial card.
When I add the card I get a bus error and it doesn't go past that screen.
Can anyone tell me what is causing this?
