Cant access hot dat on smart array 53xx

I am running SCO Openserver 5.0.6 on a ML370 with a Compaq Smart Array 5300 as the boot controller in PCI slot 6 with 4 9Gb drives in a raid 5 configuration (port 1, IDs 0-3). This server also came with a 20/40Gb hot swap DAT configured into the array as ID 4. I cannot get SCO to recognize this DAT device.

Here is what is produced at post:
Slot 6: Compaq Smart Array 5300 (Boot Controller)
Tape: Port 1; ID4

Here is the hwconfig output of the drives on the 5300 (using ciss):
name=disk vec=- dma=- type=S ha=0 id=0 lun=0 bus=0 ht=ciss

Here is my output of sconf -v:
Srom wd 0 0 0 0 (ide cdrom)
Stp cha 1 0 2 0 (SLR3 tape)
Sdsk ciss 0 0 0 0 (drive array)

When using mkdev tape, logic (as well as post) dictates that the DAT should be configured as:
name=tape vec=- dma=- type=S ha=0 id=4 lun=0 bus=0 ht=ciss
However, when using ID=4, there is no system recognition of the drive. Incidentally, this is the second tape in the system, with rStp0 being a 1/4" SLR3 Tandberg using cha from the onboard SCSI (which configured normally).

I have tried doing a mkdev tape using ciss, host adapter 0, lun 0, bus 0, and id 0 (the address of the raid array), and it does successfully pick up the array. I can then do a tar tvf /dev/rStp1 and it picks up the drive array in hwconfig. But changing it to id 4 does nothing. Is there any special trick since this DAT is configured into the array?

I received a response from Compaq Support on this issue:

It sounds like you have attached the tape drive to the array controller. If
that is the case, you have to attach it to a regular SCSI controller. Tape
drives are not supported on the array controller.
Thank You,

Hmmm. Thats strange. The server came from Compaq with the tape already in the array.
