Changing RAID 5 to RAID 10 on Smart Array E200
Hello
Running SBS Server 2003 SP2, on HP DL380, SAS drives, with Smart Array E200. (specs. attached in the picture)
We have 3 logical disks (for data) on Raid 5, with 3x146GB SAS disks. We are considering changing to Raid 1+0, after adding one new SAS disk 146GB so capacity would not be the issue.
In ACU running localy, I saw that there is only option to change raid level for one logical drive, after another...I cannot select all logical drives and migrate them all to raid 10. Will I loose data when migrating from Raid 5 to Raid 10 if I change raid level first for one logical disk and then for another two?
What is the right procedure to migrate from raid 5 to raid 10 if I have more logical disks?
I read somewhere, that I should first add new disk to raid 5 and then migrate all to raid 10...but the capacity would then be the problem I think...?? Please help.

Re: Changing RAID 5 to RAID 10 on Smart Array E200
1. Ensure you've got a good backup and emergency restore plan. Wich you allways must have.
2. Hot install disk physically.
3. open ACU.
4. Add new disk to array (Expand array).
5. extend logical drives.
Another user, wote tht if you don't save, after you have expanded. Then you will be able to do it in 1 shot, at least with 1 logical drive. I have not tried that my self.
Anyway, it will do the extension 1 logical drive at the time.
Capacity will not be a problem.

Technology brief on the Smart Array controller famely.
BBWC is required for RAID 5 (Current), and RAID level migration:
