I need some clarity regarding the warranty terms for HPE Midline HDDs.
In a recent conversation with HPE support, I was informed that Midline drives carry a 1-year warranty, and this is calculated from the shipment date (not the system purchase date). Warranty said they cannot modify this, even if the drive was purchased as part of a new server.
I purchased an HPE ProLiant ML30 Gen11 server on April 2nd, 2025, which included two 4 TB Midline HDDs. However, according to their serial numbers, the warranty on both drives is set to expire in May 2025, which implies the warranty started in May 2024—a year before the system was purchased.
Can someone from the community or HPE confirm if this is the standard policy for all Midline HDDs? And if so, is there any official documentation or policy that outlines this?
TL;DR:
Bought an HPE server on April 2, 2025, with Midline HDDs included.
HDD warranties expire in May 2025 (based on SN), meaning the warranty start date is a year before purchase.
Need confirmation if this is expected behaviour and if any official policy explains it.

Re: Clarification on Warranty Period for HPE Midline HDDs
Hello Sachin,
Greetings !
HPE Midline drives typically come with a 1-year limited warranty, which is calculated from the shipment date of the drive, not the system purchase date. This policy applies regardless of whether the drive is purchased as part of a new server or separately .

Re: Clarification on Warranty Period for HPE Midline HDDs
In the context of the warranty being “calculated from the shipment date of the drive”, does this refer to the shipment date from HPE to the vendor, or from the vendor to the end-user?
For example, if HPE ships the HDD to the vendor in March 2024, but the vendor sells it to the customer in March 2025, which date will be considered the start of the warranty period?

SolutionHello Sachin,
Greetings !
It will be calculated from the customer purchase date .
Log a case with HPE and provide POP( Proof of purchase ) along with Drive S/N listed on the physical drive ( Not from logs ) And the team will re-entitle .
