Clone system disks to SSD
Hi
On one HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen8e server we have two arrays on SmartArray P420
Array A - 1 logical drive RAID1
2x 500GB SATA HDD
Array B - 1 logical drive RAID5
10x 2TB SAS HDD
Disks on Array A are system disk, with Windows Server installed as a DC. Now we want to replace both 500GB disks that are in RAID1 with new SSD disk 480GB also in RAID1.
What is the easiest way to do this ?
Can we just make an image of system using Acronis to external drive, remove both disks, insert new ones, configure it in RAID1 volume and the restore image from external drive ? Will this work ? After booting from Acronis will it recognize storage controller and volume or are there any other steps we need to do ?
If there is an easiest way to do this I will be thankfull for sharing info.
Thank you
Mike

Re: Clone system disks to SSD
Hi,
Thank you for the Post.
Best would be to take Back up, re-create Logical Drive using new SSDs and restore from back up.
But if the Operating System is installed on the RAID 1 you will have to be more cautious.
Thank you

Re: Clone system disks to SSD
Hi
Thank you for reply.
Yes, I am aware that this will be best. We'll use Acronis True Image SW to do a full backup of partition.
So the right procedure will be:
- backup partition with Acronis SW (will it recognize RAID1 volume on SmartArray controller ?)
- remove HDD disk and replace them with 2x SSD
- configure 2x SSD in RAID1 volume and restore from Acronis image
Existing Raid1 volume is Windows Server 2012 R2 OS installed, will there be any problems or do we have to be take any additional steps ?
Regards,

Re: Clone system disks to SSD
Hi @Miha Bernik
Good day!
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the steps / order you have mentioned is perfect! However restaoring the Data at Operating System level and or the for additional steps, it would be best to approach Acronis and seek their suggestions.
Thank you
