CMOS battery issue on Proliant DL140 G3
We have an installation of nine Proliant DL140 G3 servers, just less than 3 years old. 2 months ago, we had a problem after a power cut where 2 of these servers refused to start (we were even unable to enter the BIOS menu). We replaced the CMOS batteries and this seemed to solve the problem. We decided to replace the batteries on all the servers as a precaution.
Since then, we've had a long (several weeks) period without power to these servers. On turning on, 5/9 show the same problem.
Is there a known issue with battery discharge in these servers?
Regards,
John Hill

Re: CMOS battery issue on Proliant DL140 G3
You're not the only one. I have over 100 of these, and right now 60% are showing dead CMOS batteries. We PXE boot these systems, so having them constantly losing their BIOS settings is more than a little irritating.
I've never seen CMOS batteries die so quickly. There *must* be an issue with these motherboards.
