Compaq System Partition

I am trying to set up an ML370 with RH Linux 7.1. I create the Compaq system partition, and can access the diagnostic utilites via F10 after a reboot. Once I install Linux, being careful not to touch the system partition, I can never access the diagnostic utilites in the system partition. Selecting F10 at boot just starts the boot of Linux.
What am I doing wrong?
