Configure WOL remotely via OS only

Hey guys,

OK basically we have about 20 regional sites that all have HP DL100-G2 systems. We have a requirement to turn on the WOL feature in BIOS. I would like to know if this is at all possible via the OS only, through WMI possibly?

We do not have ILO access, (don't think they are even ILO capable) only RDP access.

Any suggestions from the good folk on here?

Cheers James.

Re: Configure WOL remotely via OS only

Hi,

First of all, you have not mentioned which OS you are using.

I guess its Windows OS, here is how to configure:

To configure Wake on LAN in the operating system:

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click System.
3. Go to the Hardware tab and click Device Manager.
4. Expand the Network Adapters section.
5. Right-click your adapter and select Properties.
6. Go to the Advanced tab.
7. Select Wake on LAN Options and click Properties. Set the following:
Enable PME: set to Enabled
Wake on Settings: set to Wake on Magic Packet

OR

6. Go to the Advanced tab.
7. Set property "Wake Up Capabilities" to "Both"
8. Set property "WOL Speed" to "Auto"
9. Go to Power Management tab
Check all three boxes
The last option turns on the computer only if a WOL magic packet is received. Without this option checked, any traffic sent to the network adapter will turn on the PC.

Hope this works.

Thanks
