Difference between "SAS" and "serial SCSi" drives
Have recently ordered an HP Proliand DL350 G5 server with 3 72G drives. 2 of the drives are labelled 'serial SCSi' with a spare part number 376597-001 and the 3rd is labelled 'SAS' with a spare part number 434916-001.
Can someone tell me what the difference in these drives please as they look pretty identical at first glance, however the SAS drive fits in snuggly to all 6 drive bays whereas the 2 serial SCSi are very difficult to push in and remove. As a consequence, one of them has pretty much fallen apart and the other the metal is bent at the bottom. They are subsequently both unuseable.
Thanks
Lenny

Re: Difference between "SAS" and "serial SCSi" drives
Hi,
SAS stands for Serial Attached SCSI but they normally are called serial SCSI
---spare 376597-001 = Hot-Plug 72GB 10K rpm, SFF 2.5" Single-Port SAS hard drive
---spare 434916-001 = Hot-Plug 72GB 10K rpm, SFF 2.5" Single-Port SAS hard drive
they are the same SAS drives but the have diff product spares and product models so the hdd revision are different between them

Re: Difference between "SAS" and "serial SCSi" drives
Thanks, but what does "hdd revision" mean? If they're essentially the same then does it mean I've just been delivered 2 "Serial SCSi" disks from a faulty batch which are slightly too big to fit in the server properly?
Thanks
Lenny
