Disk Drive Installation

We are having trouble getting a third party drive to work in a 6400R. The system has an Integrated Dual Wide-Ultra3 SCSI Controller that checks out correctly during POST. We are attempting to install a 36.4 GB Quantum Atlas 10K 3.5 Series drive (with the appropriate drive tray), but nothing seems to persuade the system to see the drive.

* The drives were tested against other SCSI controllers and worked fine, so they should be in working order.

* We have tried attaching these Ultra3 LVD drives in the following manners:

- LVD hot plug port
- via known working SCSI ribbon cable to Ports A, B, and external port

* Finally, we attached an external SCSI-1 Syquest drive to the external SCSI connector and the SCSI controller, which was able to recognize the device.

Does anyone have any ideas about how we can get this drive to work in this system? Thanks!

Re: Disk Drive Installation

Of course, only the hard drives that are listed in the "Specs" or quickspecs for the proliant 6400r would be supported options by Compaq in this server. If you haven't contacted your drive vendor, then, perhaps the best course of action would be to contact them to find out what may be different about the hot-plug drive tray that is prohibiting scsi id assignment by our backplane. Otherwise, you may want to go with the drives on the "Specs" which have already been qualified and tested to work with this hardware.
