Display problems Code 12
Hi,
I've just installed W2K Server on this server, and am having problems with the display driver/adapter. I get the error message that there isn't enough resource to run the hardware, with an error code of 12.
When I look at the Problem Devices sectionin Computer management, I get the following report;
System Information report written at: 28/11/2000 12:04:59
[Problem Devices]
Device PNP Device ID Error Code
ATI Technologies Inc. 3D RAGE IIC PCI PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4756&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_7A\3&267A616A&0&28 12
PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0960&SUBSYS_00000000&REV_05\3&13C0B0C5&0&40 12
PCI Memory Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1960&SUBSYS_C0000E11&REV_05\3&13C0B0C5&0&41 28
It seems that there are several problems with devices with the same error code. Additionally, when I try to load an updated driver form the Compaq web site, the server hangs, and won't start into safe mode, VGA mode, anything!
Any ideas?

Re: Display problems Code 12
Since you are getting mutiple error messages, it appears that the wrong drivers have been installed on the system. Manually set the video controller to the standard VGA 16 color driver that ships with the OS. Then reboot the system. The OS must be booted to the standard VGA driver to update the video driver to the latest Windows 2000 driver from the Compaq web site if the current installed driver has failed. Download and install the ATI Rage IIc driver for Windows 2000 from this web address.
http://www5.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/locOsCat/20_2.html
Reboot the system so that the new driver takes effect. Then set the display mode to a resolution and number of colors your video monitor supports.
If you still get the error messages, look in the system management services, and see what drivers failed to load. Make sure you installed the OS with the required Compaq drivers for Windows 2000. See the Compaq Engineering white papers on installing Windows 2000 on Compaq server systems at this web address.

Re: Display problems Code 12
For the record, the problem lay in the fact that the remote insight board was in the wrong PCI slot, which was causing a problem on the PCI bridge. As soon as it was put in the correct slot, the problems went. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Re: Display problems Code 12
- PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge:
driver version 5.0.2183.1
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use.
(Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one
of the other devices on this system.
- ATI Technologies Inc. Rage IIC PCI:
driver version 5.0.2195.3247
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
or same as above: Code 12.
In BIOS Setup VGA Standard is set to Valid
If Invalid, the error code is 12
Versions Level:
- BIOS P20 01/21/2001
- Compaq Insight Manager 4.90
- Windows 2000 Adv Server Us, SP1
So, last drivers, SP1 for win2k, still not working.
Before I had on this same server NT4 and no problems.
With win2000 it is probably a PCI slot position.
What Is A Correct PCI Slot Position for Remote Insight Card with Win2k ???
Best Regards
