DL180 G6 LFF -> SFF doesn't work
Hello members,
we bought 2 DL180 G6 machines which have LFF drive cages. The machines work fine as they are.
We also bought 2 pieces of 25 SFF cages (link with type: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-530946-001-DL180-G6-HD-Cage-w-516809-001-Board-/390640934665? ) because we want to use the small format disks.
The new servers worked great when we took them out of the box. However, after we replaced the cages the server will not power on. Completely dead. We put the previous cages back and the servers boot.
We tried 2 different cages and 2 different DL180 G6 servers, both with the same result. It seems unlikely that we got 2 bad cages (although that's a possibility). We're more concerned that we've missed something that needs to be done to power on the server with the SFF cages.
We considered the problem was the power supply (the DL180s shipped with a 460W power supply) so we upgraded to the optional 750W power supply - no change. We know that the mother board is getting power because there is a blinking green light (we can't see what it means, but that may tell us something - we'd have to remove part of the chassis to see what the blinking light is labeled).
Could you please advise us how to proceed?
Thanks in advance

Re: DL180 G6 LFF -> SFF doesn't work
Hi,
Refer to HP ProLiant DL180 Generation 6 (G6) QuickSpecs.
It says: HP 2U G6 25 SFF CAGE FIO Kit
NOTE: Selection of the 12 LFF or 25 SFF drive cage requires an HP Smart Array P212, P410 (any except Zero Memory) or P812 controller.
But I am not sure if this is the reason for your servers not to power on.
Thank You!

Re: DL180 G6 LFF -> SFF doesn't work
Hello,
thanks for your answer.
We have the P410 Smart Array controller with 512 MB BBWC.
Controller ASY# 013233-001 SPS#462919-001 + 512MB memory card ASY#013224-002 SPS#462975-001
Is there any way to run some kind of diagnostics? Should we check the LEDs on the motherboard?
Thanks

Re: DL180 G6 LFF -> SFF doesn't work
Hi,
There are no diagnostic tools that I know for 100 series servers.
But what you can do is, after you install SFF cage, do not install any Add-On cards, USB devices.
Try with minimum memory and also clear NVRAM from System Maintenance jumper (J27).
May be some hardware conflicts going on or as you assume, the SFF could be faulty.
Good Luck!
Thank You!

Re: DL180 G6 LFF -> SFF doesn't work
We have a DL 180 G6. It is hanging on Testing NVRAM and I have been unable to find what to jump on J27 to reset it.
A, B, C, D ?
Thanks /Larry
