DL320G6 - Initialize disk The operation did not complete check the system event log for more
We are having an issue getting our server to work properly with a storage array connected via an add-in LSI SAS card.
Let me give you more details.
Previously the DL320G5 was the server of choice for this project and the majority of the project is finished using the same card and storage array we are trying to use now. The only thing that has actually changed in this entire process is the server. We are using TB drives for a total of 15 drives in the array.
The issue we have is when we actually try to initialize the storage under disk management we receive the following error:
"The operation did not complete check the system event log for more information on the error"
When we check the event log nothing no errors are found.
To recap:
The server can see the array. It can detect the size of the array and will prompt to initialize it from disk-part.
The only device that has changed is the server
tried: reinstall OS / Changed Arrays / Changed Cables / Changed Cards / Flashed Firmware / Tried Hot fixes / Changed drivers
Here is the clue that might lead to a resolution:
When we reduce the array to a small size it will initialize and work properly.

Re: DL320G6 - Initialize disk The operation did not complete check the system event log for more
You will need to convert the disk to GPT (GUID Partition Table) or Dynamic Disk to create a volume of that size.
Basic disks are supported only up to 2TB.

Re: DL320G6 - Initialize disk The operation did not complete check the system event log for more
Thanks for the reply but I can't convert anything until it gets initialized. Again, this project was ongoing and I have already built about 40 of these boxes that are currently working in production. The only thing that as changed is the server and I have tried multiple g6 servers.
Interestingly though I was able to successful built the array using a different model array and a different model SCSI controller card.
The card and the array worked together well in G5's so I know they are compatible. The only conclusion I have been able to reach is the DL320G6 isn't fully compatible with the LSI22320SE card.
