DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
Replaced older 18Gb drives with 36Gb drives.
Rebooted and prompted to use
After exiting, get message "Non-System disk...", and it looks to me as if it's trying to boot off the new blank drives.
No options to enter BIOS to set boot order to floppy or CD for SmartStart CD or floppy.
I've tried using
Can't find anything in the manuals, nor anything different in online searches.
How do you enter the BIOS and set the boot order on the DL360?
TIA
Rick

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
to get into BIOS you can use
Compaq System Configuration Utility
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?swItem=MTX-UNITY-I13227тМй=en&cc=us&mode=5&
or using Smartstart CD 5.5
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=MTX-597d7cb6b45d493285e27c1412&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
There was no Online ROM Config Util on G1 servers.
It always 'lived' on the first portion of your disks ans was setup when you did a SmartStart build.
The last supported version of SmartStart for G1s was 5.5.
Boot off that and it will setup the System Config Util for you

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
I do have the original SmartStart CD (5.3) and have found the 5.5 version.
However, the unit does not boot to floppy or CD. It tries to boot off the new blank hard drives.
How do I force a CD boot?
TIA

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
1. Insert the smartstart CD.
2. Shutdown the server completely. Remove power cord & wait for some time.
3. Turn on the server now and it should boot to the smartstart (the idea is to have the bootable CD inside the drive prior to turning on the server).

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
I did find that the server is attempting to load from the floppy, first. The disks I had with the original SmartStart pack aren't system disks.
On my PC, I used the Diskette Builder on the SmartStart CD to create the System Erase Utility Disk, then attempted using this. Run the utility, then remove the disk; insert the SmartStart CD and cycle power. Still doesn't boot the CD.
I don't see anything in the Diskette Builder to make System Configuration Utility Disks.
I found this link on HP site and downloaded the files: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=254886&swItem=MTX-UNITY-I13227&prodNameId=261261&swEnvOID=14&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3
However, any attempts at running them to extract the files that can build the SCU disks fail with an "NTVDM encountered a hard error message". Tried following a couple of forum posts to resolve this without success.
So, I'm left trying to find a way to build an MS-DOS boot disk with CDROM drivers, then figure out which program to run on the SmartStart CD.

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
However, I'm not out of the woods, yet. After creating the disks and running the utility on the server, the System Partition is created on the hard disk. Set the boot order to A:, CD, C:, which did not boot from CD with no disk in A:; then I set the order to CD, A:, C: and it still won't boot from the CDs. Neither of the SmartStart CDs I have boot (5.3 or 5.5) and the Windows 2003 installation CD does not start.
I would note that - prior to loading the System Partition - the CD-ROM drive worked when pressing the button to open drive. After loading the Partition, the CD-ROM open button no longer works.
Also, in looking at the SmartStart CDs, I wonder if they would boot anyway, as there are no system files in the root folder.
So, I still need to know what else needs changed to be able to boot off a CD.
TIA

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
There was a problem with firmware 9.0b on Teac slim line CD drives.
Check the fw and upgrade using the utility in this link:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=254886&swItem=MTX-UNITY-I9026&prodNameId=261261&swEnvOID=181&swLang=8&taskId=135&mode=3
Read the readme.txt carefully, its a bit spooky
The standard Compaq boot order:
1 Floppy
2 CD
3 Hard Drive
Always work perfectly well.

Re: DL360 G1 Need to enter BIOS to add Boot Order
However, it is clear that the CD-ROM drive is the problem. Despite the fact that it is detected and there are no errors reported, the drive isn't working.
In any case, after upgrading hardware in all other servers, I used another DL360 to build the drives, then swapped them out with this server. After booting to OS, the CD-ROM is detected and there are no errors reported, but no CDs will run in it.
Thanks to all for the excellent suggestions.
