DL360 G5 - Bad SCSI backplane?
I got a DL360 G5 (Out of warranty - Test server) that had a failed drive (Said SMART failure) in slot 5. I replaced the drive like 2 months ago. A month later it failed again. I just put another drive in, and it failed within a day. I'm starting to think the drives are fine and maybe the backplane is the problem. I don't have another SAS chassis to test these drives in.. but it seems odd that slot 5 would fail 3 times in like 2 months. I'm thinking I should purchase a new backplane and see if that fixes it? Any thoughts here?

Re: DL360 G5 - Bad SCSI backplane?
Anyone get any experience with this type of thing? Looking to avoid buying parts if its not likely the problem but I think the backplane is the only logical explanation to impact just one drive.

Re: DL360 G5 - Bad SCSI backplane?
I would Say its a backplane problem. I am actually working on a backplane issue of my own. I have a ML370 G3 that only has 6 drive slots, but the controller is reporting 15..So i'm going to be replacing the back plane tomorrow.
But, to keep on your topic, i would suggest a backplane switch. There is no reason why a drive would fail that many times on JUST that slot.
