DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

I have upgraded my HP network configuration utility to version 9.90.1.0 for a new DL360 G6. The server has the onboard NC382i NICs installed and I have carried out the firmware update to version 2.1.5.7.

When I run the network configuration utility I get the warning:

The version of the miniport driver(s) for the following adapters are not compatible with the HP network configuration utility installed.
...
Port 1 (BXND60A.SYS: 5.0.13.0 <5.2.13.0)

I can see no sign of a driver for this NIC and so I cannot comply with this. Does anyone know how to get past this and achieve teaming?

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

It looks like version 9.90 of the network configuration utility will not work with the latest driver. Downgrading to version 9.80 seems to solve the problem.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Hi Daniel, was glad to see your positive result post as I've just been experiancing the same problem although with a DL380 G6. I'm running Windows 2008 R2 with the Broadcom 1gb nics. The HP NCU teaming was fine up until I upgraded using smartstart the Nic Firmware, the NIC drivers (non were usable via the HP site) and the NC utility. Rushing the install so didnt test properly until the end and by then it was too late to determine exactly what caused the issue, but I believe the Nic Firmware update caused the problem. Using the older NCU and drivers hasn't helped so I'm assuming the firmware will need a downgrade. Can I ask a favour and get you to confirm the Nic firmware and drivers you are now using plus windows version (if used)?

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

No, I don't think that it is the firmware. I am using the firmware package 2.1.5.7 (8 Feb 2010). This package shows up as version 5.2.2 in OpenManage which reports the boot code version.

I am using HP NC-Series Broadcom 1Gb Multifunction Driver for Windows Server 2008 x64 Editions version 5.0.16.0.

These work for me in network configuration utility version 9.80.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

thanks for the reply Daniel, I'm going to try this again and see what I get - also need to remove symantect endpoint protection as it appears to cause problems at point of install.

thanks again

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

I've noticed the same issue on the Dl380G6. I also had to go back to the previous version. So I would also be interested in a fix for this problem.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Same problem here but a solution :

You have to download the "HP NC-Series Broadcom iSCSI Boot Package for Windows" from G6 drivers page, extract it you'll find a package named "cp012052.exe" in "win2008x64" folder: it is NC382i drivers V8.2.15.0 for 2008 R2 which is compatible with NCU 9.90.01.0...
Hard to find ! That's bad from HP because before NCU 9.90 there is a beautiful bug with VLAN !

actual G6 page (2010/03/23) :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3884083&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3884082&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4064
Bug report for NCU older than 9.90

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Well done! I am very impressed by your perseverance. You have found the missing miniport driver. This is a bug - HP should update the downloads site.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

On a related note...once I update both the driver and the NCU, has anyone had success in then using Windows 2008 R2 Network Load Balancing(NLB) with NCU teaming enabled?

Thanks!

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Since you were looking for drivers & software related to NC382i, logically you should have serached for this on hp.com driver download.

All these files are under NC382i downlad for all OS's.

NC382i drivers should not be available under any proliant model. Rather it should be available under the netwrok infrastructure download section which seem to be the case.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Niladri Jana -> It's not the case, please take a look before post a reply :
If the NC382i driver (compatible with NCU 9.90) was easy to find there won't be any post about this...

At that time, on the download page for NC382i there is no driver section :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3811493&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=3811492&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4064

If you take a look to any other network card there will be a driver section. For the NC373i for example :
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3660137&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=3660135&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=4064

For the case of the G6, the nc382i is an embeded card on the motherboard, it seems normal to have this driver on the "driver page" of this server like for any other embeded card... and this is the case : if you read carefuly this post you'll see that the problem is not that we can't find the driver for the NC382i, it's just that the NCU 9.90 is not compatible with the driver available on the download page : you have to open the scsi boot package to find a compatible driver.

schmurtz - I concur with your comments.

Re: DL360 G6 cannot use HP network configuration utility

Hi

We have the same problem on Win 2008 32 bit. Updated the Teaming software yesterday and got same error about miniport driver. Downloaded a driver but on installing it crashed the server, now 2 of the NIC have disappeared (the NC382 and there are 2 360 ones there that say no cable plugged in. Of course they are plugged in and there is a link light but the drivers say up to date etc. I have put on the latest PSP and even downloaded the ISCSI utility mentioned but that just says it is not required. Any help gratefully received.
